“Working Out with Loincloth” Project in 2012-2014

CIMB Thai Bank and Folk Doctor Foundation, Institute of Continuing Education and Social Services (ICESS), Thammasat University held a health promotion project for the elderly in urban communities to increase awareness in the importance of healthy lifestyle among the elderly, whose population has been increasingly growing. The project included basic physical examination and a workshop called “Working Out with Loincloth”, which is an exercising method that combines sports science with body movement therapy and Alzheimer’s treatment to create certain movements that help enhance both mental and physical stamina. The workout method is good for everyone, regardless of sex and age, and requires only a loincloth, which is a piece of cloth that most Thais possess and are familiar with. The project’s goal was to assist the elderly in 10 communities within Bangkok and the vicinity tin taking care of their health properly and enjoy their retirement. Approximately 1,000 elders have participated in this project so far.
