
CIMB Thai and CIMB Foundation held the official launch of community link in Thailand by Khun Subhak, Dato' Shukri, Khun Tira Wannamethee, member of CIMB Group's International Advisory Panel, and the beneficiaries of the 3 pilot projects (Vibharam Hospital, Ban Thung Yai School and Foundation for Support and Development of Disabled Person).
The main concept of CIMB Thai Community Link is not only for a long-term participation of the branch teams to create the most suitable project but the Bank will also invite executives, employees, and customers to participate in the activities. The Community Link project which will be financially supported by CIMB Foundation, Malaysia can be considered as a way to give back to the Thai society with the use of foreign capitals.
In honor of the 2,600th Anniversary of the Lord Buddha's Enlightenment as well as His Majesty the King's 85th Birthday Anniversary, His Majesty the Queen's 80th Birthday Anniversary and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn's 60th Birthday Anniversary, CIMB Thai joined hand with Yannawa Temple and Department of Livestock Development hosting the "Save Cattle Lives Project" on every first Saturday of the months. The Bank invited its customers and general public to join the "Royal Cattle Buffalo Bank for Farmers" Project by donating money to buy cattle from slaughterhouses and delivered them to Department of Livestock Development. The saved cattle would be under care of Department of Livestock Development to the rest of their lives, with no return to slaughterhouses, and would be lent to poor farmers for farming. Certain staff had volunteered to prepare donation receipts for donators every first Saturday of the months.

Ban Phon Krang School Computer Learning Center was another CSR activity under Community Link Project, which was funded by CIMB Foundation. This activity for community was the cooperation with CIMB Thai customer (Thepnakorn Group), aimed at developing computer and internet skills of community youth and residents for their self and carreer development. The project supplied learning tools, sport equipment, and scholarships (granted by Money & Banking Journal of Media Associated Co., Ltd.). It is a stream of generosity flowed from every sector to the society.

CIMB Thai has carried on its physical check-up services for communities. Joining with Talad Thai, the Bank offered a "Free Physical Check-Up for Talad Thai Community," which is a part of its Community Link project. Altogether 400 merchants in Talad Thai, most of whom are the elders, were rendered a full range of physical check-up services from Vibharam Hospital. This project provided them access to public health services and brought happiness to the hearts of givers and receivers.

The project gave elementary school students in remote areas the same opportunities for learning computers and internet as big-cities students do, as well as community people to use computers in the center for their career benefits. The scheme was introduced to CIMB Thai by a moderator of Modern 9 TV Channel and partnered by Jamsai Publishing for establishment of the school's library. It also promoted education for students with learning disabilities (LD) of the school to earn equal learning opportunities as normal children.

To restore flood-hit schools in the southern part of Thailand, CIMB Thai, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Bangkok South, initiated the Library Kits Project to supply book sets, worth totaling 500,000 baht, to 25 flood-damaged elementary school libraries in the South, including Krabi, Patthalung, Nakhonsrithammarat and Suratthani provinces. The books selection was subject to recommendations of Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University to cover science, mathematics, linguistics, and others.

CIMB Thai in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Bangkok South and Huai Khwang Community provided educational opportunities for over 2,000 NFE students with modern and adequate teaching approaches. The project encouraged those who have dropped out of schools to return to their classes. We received a support from Huai Khwang District Office with a free space for setting up the center.

Over 200 volunteers from CIMB Thai, Pathumwan District, and Rotary Club of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi were gathered, with a common environmental awareness, to rehabilitate the mangrove forest at Bang Pu Nature Education Center, Bangpoo Sub District, Muang District, Samut Prakarn Province. Apart from being valuable to coastal fishery and a nursing place for young aquatic animals, mangrove forests are also a learning center of ecological system. The donated money from the "CIMB Thai Bank for Mangrove Reforestation Project" account was spent for more than 3,000 young plants of cork tree and alba blume.

"Share for Children" was a fundraising rally activity, held in collaboration with SME entrepreneurs. The entire proceeds were donated for building a new restroom for over 300 students at Baan Khao Takiab Municipality School in Prachuap Khiri Khan. The event gathered over 100 mass media and customer volunteers who contributed their efforts painting the school's fences and improving its library. (The latter was in cooperation with Jamsai Publishing.) The campaign aimed to strengthen customer relationship and encourage sustainable contributions of business sector to society.

During this year's flood crisis, CIMB Thai Bank has taken part in helping flood victims under a budget of 3 million Baht by distributing rescue bags and drinking water to 1,400 households in Nakhonsawan, Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Chainat, Lopburi, and Bangkok and offering a 25-seat engine boat to Special Warfare 2 Department, Fort Somdet Phra Narai Maharat, Lopburi province to help evacuate victims in remote areas. CIMB Thai Bank has also joined hands with The Thai Bankers' Association and Thai Listed Companies Association to help flood victims and collaborated with Habitat for Humanity Thailand to raise funds from staff and allies for rehabilitation of habitats after floods recede.
In addition, the Bank has joined hands with The Thai Red Cross Society, Pathumwan Area Office, and Embassy of Malaysia to invite people in Langsuan area to donate blood on 22 November 2011 due to the shortage of blood during a flood crisis at CIMB Thai Bank Head Office, Langsuan.
To carry on the local way of life and combine the local wisdom with a new technology, the Bank has supported the construction of a science learning center and equipment for making of biological fertilizer and coconut sugar as well as a herb garden and a mangrove plant learning center. Students and locals have a chance to exchange knowledge in the new environment which is different from knowledge found in textbooks.
To promote computer learning among primary level students in remote areas where computers have not been used, courses on how to use computer and internet have been held for communities to be applied in their careers and improve engagement of the community and school in a sustainable manner under guidance from MCOT reporters who helped raised funds and sportswear for the school and coordinated with Jamsai Publishing for construction of library.
Due to insufficiency of teachers and lack of equipment for distance learning via satellite, the Bank has provided audio-equipment and internet system to enable efficient distance learning to help make students feel bonded with the community and not have to travel to study in the city. The Bank has also collaborated with Media Associated Co., Ltd to provide textbooks, learning curriculums, and e-commerce business knowledge for communities.
Due to one of the biggest floodings in Thailand during the end of 2010, CIMB Foundation provided a relief fund with a total of THB 950,000, together with CIMB Thai budget of THB 500,000.
The "CIMB Thai for Flood Affected People" account was opened for donations of staff/ customers with a total of THB 113,683.02
